Here we go kids!! Expect lot's of grandstanding and some real knee jerk legislation cause this IS the year to gear up for the big election. I wish someone would inform people that it's their responsibility to be informed consumers AND parents. My kid racked up $380 in cell downloads in one month. I didn't need my senator to step in. I took away her phone for a month, blocked her ability to purchase ANYTHING on it, and worked out the bill with my provider (AT&T) who practically wiped it all away. This is just going to burden us with more laws and subsequently, more taxes in the form of direct taxation of products, indirect taxes by way of price hikes due to a rise in business tax, or BOTH.

Amazing, a parent that actually does what they are supposed to.

web applications that don't require install of real programs, then I'll grant "mac-users" that one.

How is a web application not a real program ? It's written in a programming language, it executes instructions based on how the code is compiled/interpreted, and it displays results by processing some user input.

Sounds like a real program to me.

Anyway, "installing" a computer program or application is savvy ? Then what does it mean when you compile your applications straight from the source code ? Better yet, write them yourself ?

Considering that nearly all "Pro IT" overwhelmingly used Windows

Please, all the guys who are any good at IT are Unix users. "Windows" sysadmins suck. It's a dirty secret and don't tell my boss : I probably know more about Windows than they do. I just don't want to work with it.

not to mention that "gamers" are one of the most comptuer-savvy consumers

Laughable. Gamers are good at one thing : Buying parts and jamming them together. It's not like they even come close to understanding what is meant by sub-pixel tessellation and what that means on their screens (or even what a sub-pixel is).

Yes but you do not need to use it as a physical button.
You can use the MacBook 100% without EVER clicking the physical button.
The trackpad can be setup in System Preferences to respond to a touch as a click rather than a physical click. That is the way I have used it from days one and I have no issues with it at all.

Yeah, but it's important to some of us to have that physical click, which is why I love the trackpad. I can get a tactile response from anywhere on it. That's also necessary for a phone or iPod for me, and I'm sure it's true for thousands of other users.

Question for folks who have gone (or purchased ticket voucher). From the looks of it, you buy a voucher, which you then redeem online for a ticket, correct? Can you buy the voucher now, but fill in the attendee ticket details at a later time? I'm going to buy, but there's the off chance I won't be able to attend, so I'd like to give the ticket to someone else.

Yes. I got mine this morning, and buying a ticket is separate from activating it. After you buy, you'll get a link to activate it, and you could forward that link to someone else if you can't go. Once one person activates it, however, it becomes non-transferable.

well.. I was a sucker hoping for an authentic kit. My wife really wanted a white iphone, and I bought this kit to convert a regular one as an x-mas gift.

Apple has nothing to worry about. These pieces are not from Apple.. they're friggin plastic. Filing a dispute with paypal and my CC now.

Did the add say it was from apple then ?

for a small sum of a $1billion usd, i volunteer to watch over the innocent children and their purchases. I will smack their little fingers with a a bamboo cane. Suddenly this reminds me of that south park episode where they started smacking "add" kids. "sit down and study." i think parents need to get caned then schooled into using parental controls

    +1

I am JB and have biteSMS. This is the reason the new version won't work? I'm logged in but everything keeps popping up 'Error' on every page.

Is the only option to restore the old one by syncing with iTunes on my computer?

yes this is the reason. try it yourself.

and yes. i updated FB on my phone. so i just deleted it, and then re-sync'd my phone with the older version of FB.

Are you people seriously applauding this? What a waste of our tax dollars!! I do contracts with the Navy every single day and I know that the technology that they have will not be benefited by the use of iPad/iPod/iPhone. The military does not offer wi-fi to their staff on base. Everything is hard wired and the conduit is sealed with a tamper proof silicon. The Government is very very particular about their SIPRnet (as they call it). Without wi-fi, what use is the iPad for the military other than to give them a little treat and waste our tax dollars? They already have mobile equipment in the vehicles that is far superior to Apple's products.

I dunno, maybe they wanna hone there skills by playing cod4 on an ipad on a rest day!

    Hi everybody,

at the moment I've got an old non unibody MacBook Pro with an ACD like in the picture below. As apple has switched to the unibody models they started to put a black bezel on the the ACDs and a black keyboard to the MacBooks. What I love about the silver-only-design is, that the content on the screen is much more dominant, the MacBook and the ACD seems to fade away when you are working with them. I just wanted to know what you think about the new vs. old design.

    Regards

    Dave

Well, I will voice my opinion and here it is: I like the unibody screen with the black bezel better. I like the black keyboard and the silver bezel though. :) Now, the black keyboard looks 10 times better than the silver/white keyboard. Just my .25 though.

I am new to Apple and I am not very nostalgic about old Macs. Maybe in a few years I will like the current model more than the future model. What a mouth full!

Now if we could only get Photoshop and Photoshop elements competitors to go with it. The major advantage adobe has now is the complete package. Lightroom Beta4 is no slouch either.
would be better if everyone would read the Aperture pages before commenting

When will these companies stop bitching over this! I shop at Target all the time for DVDs, iTunes selling those movies is not going to change this. If I want the DVD, I will buy the DVD. Seriously, this is like them complaining over Pay Per View or Rental stores. Get over yourself! This is corporate America... monopolies are not going to be supported by the masses. Competition is a good thing. These companies need to start putting the consumer first and themselves second.

Hmm, this could work in Apple's favour if, for example, the unthinkable happened and CS3 was released as Intel-only. It'd force a lot of pro users to upgrade their hardware to Intel Macs. Then again it could piss them all off into gradually abandoning the Mac platform and switching to PC.

It's not a good precedent, but inevitable at some point. Surprising that it's happening already though.

I disagree totally. People buy superiority. Thats what a good portion of the population wants. Thats why peop;le buy designer clothes. Thats why people buy fancy cars. Thats why people buy expensive jewelery. Thats why people stay at 5 star hotels. People want to feel like they are better than everyone else or they've made better choices.

Not everyone of course. But there are alot.

Porsche never created a commercial with a dude representing a Porsche telling a dude representing a Hyundai that all Porsche vehicles are superior to Hyundai vehicles.

Yves Saint Laurent never created a commercial with a dude representing Yves Saint Laurent telling a dude representing clothing sold at Wal Mart that all Yves Saint Laurent clothing is superior to Wal Mart's clothing.

The Four Seasons Hotel never created a commercial with a dude representing The Four Seasons telling a dude representing Days Inn that The Four Seasons Hotel is superior to the Days Inn.

All of these "top-of-the-line" companies create advertisements showing their products in the best light possible, without resorting to childish arguments of who's better.
