Ok, iPod is fine for a TM.

aiPod and eyePod, That's a bit different.

    But POD!!!

So, are Apple going to sue the BBC (amongst other) for having Pod casts? Everytime a member of the media of the celeb mention podcast, are Apple going to chase royalties???

This is really quite close to the mark!

What about the the phrase "2 peas in a pod"?...

It may just be me, but if this continues, I'm going to throw out all my things MAC, and go back to Micr$oft. That's how really ANTI them I'm feeling at the moment.

OI! APPLE LAWERS!!! YEAH YOU!!! Read some Mintzberg, or Mead, or (and I'd strongly advise this) Andrew Bailey. Basically, get those HBS grads out of your org and stop using crappy outdated Business School Methods. It was once the way to go. But what they don't consider are Gender and Cultures! You wanna piss me off: You loose my custom.

Sorry for the moan, but the litigation era was over in the 90's.

It's about Love Marks now, and your Lawers are hurting your brand!!! Fix it before it's too late!

I am sure this works like other download GPS apps. They download the maps based on the route. They download the hold trip as soon as you start out and cache the maps. So, unless you are starting out without coverage, i don't see how this would be an issue.

i can't comment on the USA, but in the UK the data coverage can vary substantially. The best voice network is not always the best data network. O2 for example have a good voice network in the UK, but are by far the worst for 3G coverage.

I can't see how this type of set up could work for people who rely on GPS on a daily basis, weekend travellers maybe, but not people who rely on GPS for their jobs

Now for the past month these same analysts were predicting that Verizon was the next carrier.

I guess now everyone will be getting on the T-Mobile band wagon, until the rumor fades away, just like the Verizon rumor.

I understand that trucks will do the most damage, but what I was just offering was that those gas taxes were originally designed for highway upkeep and that passenger cars with wildly different gas mileage should be inflicting similar amounts of damage.

Yes, I know heavier will mean more damage, but the inequitity of the tax based on fuel economy wouldn't (I think) even out the damage versus taxation level. My friend's 1970 1/2 Firebird (6 mpg) would not do more than 10 times the damage of a Prius, would it? More damage surely, but no way would it be 10 times (doubtful it would even be twice), yet the Prius would pay 10 times less for the 'right' of using the roads.

If taxation is designed to ween us from foreign oil and clean-up the atmosphere, then a gas tax is perfect. Otherwise, it needs to be based on miles driven somehow (perhaps along with a weight multiplier).

Maybe because that's the only competitor there is right now? No WebOS tablet released. No BlackBerryOS tablet released. I guess technically they could've put some Windows 7 devices on there, but that would've been embarrassing ;)

WebOS, BBOS... all vaporware right now (i.e. non-shiping product) and no matter what, you can't compare vendor hype to reality of a product you can touch and hold in it's shipping form.

The Xoom is a great example of this. Sounded killer on paper and in the demo's looked awesome. But go use one. It's a mess. The one I worked with crashed, had screen lag and choppy animations of icons. Games were a joke. Half of the ones on the demo unit were phone size apps that looked like junk on a tablet.

Not saying the Xoom is not a good tablet. It is. But it's far from the same fit and finish as the iPad or iPad2. It just felt like a beta device that was rushed to market to get out there. I had the same impressions with the first Samsung Tab.

These competitors have got to take quality and overall user experience a lot more serious if they are going to lure the non-techie consumer into their camp. This is where Apple is killing them right now.

It's a great deal; can I hire someone to convince my wife I need an iPad? Nothing I can say will convince her otherwise ;)

I am right there with ya. Great deal, I want one, but can't quite get the approval to spend $ I don't really have. I just got the credit card paid off.....

DVD's are obviously pretty profitable or they wouldnt bother selling them, so what they are saying is if the movie companies let Apple sell movies they are gonna cut off their noses to spite their face and pull a really profitable sales line? I dont think so - ********* idiots.
Actually not really. I use to sell them in my store.
I'm sure they get a better deal then us but not that much better.

Normal DVD retail is like this.
    DVD normal sells $24.95
DVD wholesale would be around $19.95
If I bought a case I would get them for $16.95.

This doesn't help when Best Buy and Target and Wal-Mart sell them at 19.95 for the very first week! I'm lucky if I make 5 bucks on DVD sales...then factor in shipping costs of the DVD's.

Selling DVD's is like selling comic books...you have to sell massive amounts of them to make any kind of money.

I figure Target and Wal-Mart make around 3-5 bucks on each DVD they sell.
Some folks ask us to match Wal-Marts and Targets and Best Buy pricing...but we can't normally. We can't even make any money of them now.

I once had a DVD for sale. It was priced at 24.95. I paid 19.95 for it. I marked it down to 20.95..to move it. Guy comes in to tell me Best Buy sells the same DVD for 14.99!

When I check for updates in outlook it tells me 'no updates available' ... oh well, downloading it now directly from the webpage linked in the article.Perhaps it doesn't detect the update unless you use Outlook. Some MS Office users, like me, don't even install Outlook, and Check for Updates didn't show it for me either.

Moving from Outlook is a good think no matter what. The databases used stinks. It chokes at about a million records and sooner or later, it will slow down, become lazy and before you know it... done. Corrupted... just like a US politician. :D
I find that it corrupts the database when it reaches 2GB in storage, no matter how many messages are involved.

Could be they made many more Verizon models. Could also be that ATT models are being bought for resale overseas. Nothing wrong with that, which is what the OP was implying, I think..

Nah. You put too much thought into his post. He's just saying that the people who bought Verizon iPads are stupid.

Before all you Apple fannies disagree with this; just remember Apple is trying to sue everyone else too.

    It's all ridiculous.

That's rather a sweeping generalization, isn't it? Sure, many lawsuits over patents are silly but does that mean we should discount the legitimate ones?

Amen. Some people here act like Kodak has no right to sue. Egads! Apple does it all the time also.

I don't see a single person on this thread so far saying Kodak has no right to sue, and yet you're third person now to claim people on this site are going to react that way. Where I'm from, that's called a strawman argument and just a thinly veiled way to insult people.

I think the white iPhone looks a little ugly. The white looks somehow cheap...

I totally agree. Why anyone would hold out for that color and why Apple spent so much time trying to get that white paint to work properly is beyond me.

In-app purchase can be disabled using parental control. This is stupid. I expect my tax to be used by my government to tackle bigger problems, oh maybe like jobs and the economy, not to appease some idiot "parents."

    Point and match.

It's not going to happen. It would steal sales away from the MacBook Pro, and the cost would be minimal between the two.

IMO, it's by no means out of the question. After all, even the current 13.3" MacBooks will yet go through a number of significant upgrades in future. At some point, it's likely they'll have dedicated graphics. They just won't be on a par with the MBP's graphics (& other extras!).

So it's quite feasible, & it needn't affect MBP sales. Overall, it could also significantly increase the number of switchers from PCs!

What does ANY of this have to do to Apple rejecting a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist from the App Store?

Probably the same reason "what does the original post have to do with the Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist getting his app rejected." This person was merely commenting on another posters post.

I am waiting to see if the app gets rejected a second time before I lay judgment.

the Consumerist was recently bought by Consumer's Union. The "non profit" organization that sells the magazine Consumer's Reports. the same rag that has different testing standards for different products to push the snobby/elite/more expensive ones.

last year they tested some child car seats differently to say the cheaper ones were deadly

Tally me in the 'I care' crowd as well.

If the student price were $99, I could buy it in a heartbeat... but it's so close that I'm trying to find a way to get it.

If you have a student ADC membership, and still have your hardware discount assetyou can purchase it for $99 (EDU) at the ADC Store.

This is not really new technology.

For those not wanting to look this up here is a quote from wikipedia

"This effect was first discovered, accidentally, by the German physicist Thomas Johann Seebeck in 1821, who found that a voltage existed between two ends of a metal bar when a temperature gradient ΔT existed in the bar."

These same chips are used by some people as active coolers for CPS and GPS. They are sold as "Thermo-electric cools" (TECs) or "Peltier Devices". I can think of a couple large industrial suppliers of these devices. THey are used in those plug in ice chests and very small desktop fridges too. They are mostly used in the cooling mode but the same device works as a heater or as a power source. They are not expensive. $15 or $20 will get you one that you can play with

This is a very common device what is new is that someone is marketing it to Apple.
