Do everyone who graduate from MIT Sloan make $200k after 3 years of graduation? Think about it. What do you think average salary of a ISB graduates is when you were hearing students getting offers of Rs. 1 crore? It was only 15Lacs.

    I did read my friend where you were assuming Bonuses and increments does not make significant part of the salaries! But i think you are comparing apple with the oranges when you compare MIT sloan with ISB.However i agree with you 100% and the other fellow that the reson to do MBA is for personal career goals rather than calculating ROI.

    Plus it is not a "** State University" but a "University of **" which means it should have better profs.



    By your logic "University of Ohio" would have better profs than "Ohio State University"?
    What you want to see is whether a particular school is the flagship university of that state or not.
    You could also just see the school ranking.

    I opened the mailbox at home this evening and to my complete surprise -- the physical card! Sudden burst of efficiency at USCIs, 6 days from approval to actual delivery of card.

    Good luck to everyone else!

    May be you scared the USCIS with your phone calls and they just wanted you out of their systems. So that you don't rally other people and then they might have to really become efficient.:cool:

    Recently got Laid off. Here are my details:

    -485 has been pending >180 days
    -PD: Feb 2006
    -Last day of work is 6th March, 2009
    -EAD valid for another 6 months or so.
    -I am working on H1-B, which is valid till 2010.

    I understand that I can use AC21 and work on my EAD as long as the job is similar or same. I also understand that it is a good idea to get the H1-B transferred rather than using the EAD.

    My questions are:

    -Can one stay unemployed on EAD without jeopardizing the GC process?

    -Do I have to inform USCIS that I am unemployed as of March 6th, 2009 in case I do not find a job?
    -Do I inform the USCIS in case I find a job and work on my EAD or my H1-B.
    I mean when do I have to inform USCIS if at all?

    Also, I live in Windsor, Canada, and used to commute everyday to work to Detroit. Can I stay in Windsor subsequent to March 6th in case I don't find a job. Will it affect my 485 process?

    Each Year un-used FB (Family based) visas are given to EB (Employment based) in coming year. Last year CIS did not use 22704 FB visa which is added to 140K EB count for 2008.

    that means Eb2 india has more than 40k visa available ... that explains it why EB2 India and China has moved from June to August 2006.

    It Is Too Bad For Eb 3 , Why This Injustice With Eb 3 ?

    I guess this simply the demand supply equation. I might in realty be the other way with regards to the number of EB-3 approvals. I remember reading that EB-3 India got quite a few visas in June and July of this year. I dont remember the exact numbers but I am sure they exceeded the 7% per country limit. Anyone remember the exact number of approvals for EB-3 India

    I checked on the site you mentioned. I can see so many approvals for the dates after mar-01. There are approvals on mar-01, mar-07, mar-09, mar-11, mar-12, mar-14, mar-15, mar-16 etc etc for the Atlanta center. I dont know what made you think that the process was slowed sin Mar-01.

    tying GC to housing initiative. You say there are things that can be done without money. Then, when I requested you to outline each step on how to approach, gather people and take it forward, you vanished and you sprout here again.

    COntributing or not contributing money is your prerogative. If you don't see merit in something you do not have to contribute. But if you feel something can be done, just don't expect someone else to execute that idea. YOU have to take ownership.

    There was a good explanation given on why it needs 10,000. EVeryone knows USCIS asked 5000. That would probably take 2 years time as there are 20,000 requests in queue before this one. Given that fact, they had some ideas to see if they can get a faster response time following a different path. They estimated it would cost about 5000 more.
    People who trust them (in terms of their ability and honesty), contributed. If you do not trust them, that is fair enough. But they earned the trust of so many people who are willing to contribute. Believe me, none of the people who contributed have done so after careful deliberation.

    Well, even for this initiative, you are welcome to outline steps and then am sure many of the IV members will join you.

    Usually they ask for only copies of all the docs and not the originals.And they may ask to show the original copies of the birth,marriage etc,wedding pics,family pics etc at the time of interviews.

    Hi all,

    I reached US on H4 visa with my husband 6 months ago. I have been working in an IT firm back in India. Now my husband's contract got extended and it seems like we will be here for some years. I don't want to waste my career by simply sitting at home. I have searched through many job sites and I got many calls from desi consultants. Many of them are asking me to change the resume as I have only 2 yrs of experience. By reading thorugh all the forums and articles I am aware of the traps of desi consultants.

    I do not want to show any fake experience. All these consulting firms are saying that I won't get any job here without changing my resume.. :(

    I just want to know your humble opinion about the options I can try. Is it impossible to get through with 2 yrs of experience? Please share your thoughts on it. I feel very sad thinking about my career. :(

    I believe it is also illegal to work before getting a social security number. When you are on H4 you dont have a social security number (you have an itin which is not good enough for working). You will not get a social security number unless you have work authorization (i797). H1 will start only after october 1, so you can apply for social security number only after October 1 (i.e if you have i 797), it will take you about 4 to 7 weeks to get ssn. You can work only after getting the ssn. Somebody correct me if i wrong here.

    One more thing about desi companies.

    When you go from H4 to H1 or F1 to H1, you are legally allowed to work for your sponsor only after H1 approval (I-797) comes, not after the receipt notice comes. When you transfer H1s from company A to company B, you can start working as soon as the receipt notice for transfer petition is received. That is the law.

    Now, since our dear desi employers are known to be greedy and also known to be comfortable in bending, breaking or ignoring the law, once they file for your H4 to H1 transfer, they would want you to start working right away. Forget about waiting for H1 approval notice, they are unlikely to wait even for the receipt notice. It would be illegal to work on H4 even if you have the receipt notice in your hands for H4 to H1 transfer.

    However, they would want you to work, so that you can start generating the revenue for the company. (hey, it costs money to do your transfer and money doesnt grow on trees). And who's gonna know. Once you are a willing participant in this, you are not going to report it, they are not going to report it and the client (your project location) would not even know the difference between H1 and H4. And ICE has its hands full in busting illegals working in meat packing plants.

    Now, that is not all. In order to cover up the fact that you were working (and on their payroll) while in H4 without waiting for H1 approval, they may pay you in checks other than payroll checks. Either as an expense check or something else(cash, money order etc). There is another law they are breaking in the process of covering up the immigration law violation. The tax laws. By not paying you on a regular payroll, they cannot deduct your income tax and the employer's payroll tax. So it would be "Off the books".

    Anyways, clarify with them that you will not work until you see the original approval of I-797 in your hands. That way, you wont be dragged into this mud.

    I am not advocating that anyone break any laws. I am just stating what I have known from this industry and the usual practices so that people can avoid getting into situations where they unknowingly break the laws due to their employers' greed. Also, I am not denigrating Desis or desi companies, I am myself an Indian.

    i remember a few months back I had checked on and there were approximately 200 people with an earlier priority date than mine 09/2005. now there are 700.

    I agree the BEC freed up many people but a bulk of these cases are priority dates porting and labor substitution.

    so you can download and analyze the labor certfications from flcdatacenter (or look at my earliest posts..when u search posts by user) but the fact of the matter is that there is no predictability to the queue because we specialize in jumping ahead

    There is nothing to worry. You should be fine. IT does not really depend on your specific skills. If you move to another position as systems analyst with diferent technical skills it should not matter. So long as you are in the same/similar occupation as defined in ONET job code.

    I have a small doubt on AC -21 especially the same / similar interpretation. in Perm Application there are two places where there is job description. One is Section H field 11 ( Job Opportunity/ job duties) and other one is Section F field 2 ( Prevailing Wage/ SOC code) now both define what the job is the Section H is company specific and Section F is list of USCIS codes under which this particular job falls as subset.

    The question is will USCIS judge using section F or Section H for same/ similar interpretation because Section F is pretty Generic and as long as you are in same field it works example in IT if you were say DBA and now data modeler or Systems Analyst or coder they are pretty much same. Here is an example of one such code

    15-1051 Computer Systems Analysts
    Analyze science, engineering, business, and all other data processing problems for application to electronic data processing systems. Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems and review computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations. May analyze or recommend commercially available software. Exclude persons working primarily as "Engineers" (17-2011 through 17-2199), "Mathematicians" (15-2021), or "Scientists" (19-1011 through 19-3099). May supervise computer programmers.

    But in case they try to interpret Section H is it very complex and has specific tools that can get outdated or obselete with time. So it will be difficult to do an Ac -21 with that Example if they mention SQL Server or Ab-Initio in section H and now you take a full time in company using Oracle or Informatica will that cause an issue?
